Our 9/16/2023 general meeting was a success! We had eleven attendees, including many representatives from City Hall and other civic organizations. You can find a copy of the meeting minutes here; a copy will also be emailed to everyone on our listserv.
Great news! Wendy and Cat from Habanero Bikes have generously offered us use of their shop space at 264 Washington Street to host our general meetings. They have a beautiful new space in the former Art Corner building – you may not recognize it with its fresh new paint job! Be sure to visit them and support their business in return for their support of our organization. Our next general meeting will be held at Habanero on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at 10:00 am. Bring a portable chair if you have one.
We will be using the next few weeks to gear up for our Haunted Happenings crosswalk event, which will be held on Sunday, October 15, from 12:00 to 1:30 pm. We will have the support of the Salem Police Department and are looking for volunteers to wear costumes, assist pedestrian crossings, and help educate visitors at our informational table. High-viz gear will be provided for those who want additional visibility. This should be an impactful event – our prototype event back in June was very well-received, and this one should be even bigger and better! If you would like to help that day, please plan to meet on the Common at 11:30 am for a pre-event huddle.
Stay tuned for more events, including Pedestrian Pub Nights and helping with upcoming City Council elections! We will target one event per month from now on, with a general meeting approximately once every two months. We are nearing the end of our first year of action, and it’s been very productive so far; we hope to continue our advocacy through 2024 and beyond! Thank you all for your continued support. Safe walking!
